Calendar of events

2004

 Jan. 10th  - Video brunch at Brakhage residence.  Please RSVP for this event, and plan to bring a brunch item to share.  Send email to above for directions.  
 
Feb. 9th -  Monday 7pm --NOTE SPECIAL DAY & TIME -- Propagation workshop with Native Plants and Ann Wakeman.  Location:  Unitarian Universalist Church at 2615 Shepherd Blvd (off Old Highway 63, several miles south of Broadway).  Bring seeds to share if you have them, other supplies will be provided. 
 
Mar. 20th - Saturday 10am - NOTE CHANGE FROM USUAL DATE --Stormwater/rain garden program at Columbia Public Library.  Judy Allmon of the Grow Native Program (Missouri Dept. of Conservation) will present. 
 
April 10th  - New MU planting at the corner of Stadium & Monk Drive (near the Hearnes Center).  This will be our biggest planting ever, with about 2000 plugs to put in the hill, so we will start earlier than usual, at 9 am.  (Rain date is April 17). 

April 25th - Columbia Earth Day fair.  We will staff a booth at this event.  Volunteers and donations of plants for sale are needed

May 8th - Planting & maintenance of a prairie garden at Russell Elementary School in Columbia.  This small garden needs some new plants added and a bit of sprucing up with mulch and weeding.  We will meet behind the school in the outdoor classroom at 10 am.  Bring trowels, shovels, mulch forks, gloves, and clippers if you have them.  We will work for 1-2 hours.  

May 22nd - SPECIAL EVENT Prairie Fork planting with Missouri Prairie Foundation.  Prairie Fork is near I70, east of Kingdom City.  Directions and time will follow. 
 
June 12th – "Show Me" visits to members’ houses.  We will tour the home gardens of a few members to see what they've done with their wildflowers and offer advice/suggestions for new ideas.  Email wildonesmo@yahoo.com if you would like your house to be included on the tour.  
 
July 10th - “Show Me” visits to members’ houses.  Details to be announced. 
 
August 28th - joint meeting with St. Louis Wild Ones (in St. Louis).  We will tour native plantings in Forest Park. 
 
Sept. 11th -  field trip to Prairie Garden Trust with the Native Plant Society.  Trip leader:  Ann Wakeman.   Bring picnic lunch.  

Directions: Meet at the MDC Research Center, College and Stadium, at 9:00 am to car pool.  Take I-70 east to Highway 54 at Kingdom City, then take Highway 54 seven miles south of Fulton to BB, turn left on BB.  Continue 1.9 miles to first turn to the right (Co. Road 430), go 0.4 miles to Co. Road 431, turn left.  Note mailbox 8945.  Continue 0.5 to parking lot.

Oct. 9th - Honeysuckle eradication at Capen Park/Hinkson site.   We will be working on land that belongs to the Greenbelt Coalition, and assisting with their efforts to remove this invasive exotic plant.  Meet at the Capen Park mulch site parking lot at 10 am.  (Capen Park is on Rock Quarry Road, just south of College and Stadium).  Bring clippers, gloves, water.  Be prepared for working in brushy areas.
