Calendar of events 2005
Meetings are at 10 am on the 2nd Saturday of the
month unless otherwise noted. Meeting location will vary
depending on activity. Please email wildonesmo@yahoo.com or call

Jan.8- Video brunch/social at the home of Nancy Brakhage.
We will meet for brunch at 10:30 am, please bring a dish to
share.
Feb.14 Propagation workshop with Native Plants and
Ann Wakeman – NOTE: meeting will be at 7pm Monday evening at the
Unitarian Universalist Church on Shepherd Blvd.
Directions: From Old Highway 63, between Broadway and Stadium,
turn east onto Shepard Blvd. A few blocks down, you will see
Shepard Elementary School on your right and the Unitarian Universalist
Church on the
left.
Mar. 12 – 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Native plant site
preparation and installation/Watershed-friendly Yard Techniques
workshop with Ann Wakeman and Jeff Zimmershied. This will be held
at the Department of Conservation Resource Science building, which is
located at the NE corner of College Ave. and Stadium Blvd.
April 9 – 10:00 am. Rain garden construction
workshop
with Hinkson Creek Watershed Restoration Project. Location:
Rockbridge
Elementary School in Columbia. Meeting will consist of
instructional
slide presentation and then a "hands on" dig and planting of a rain
garden.
Information on aquatic plants and insects will also be presented.
Please
bring shovel, trowel, and gloves. Directions: From Broadway
and
Providence, take Providence south past Nifong and State Farm. At
the
next light where Route K continues south, make a left following 163.
Turn
right into the school parking light immediately after this turn.
April 24 - Earth Day festival in downtown Columbia.
Come
visit our booth. Wildlfowers and native plants will be available
for
purchase. Volunteers to help staff the booth are need.
<> May 14 - Forum Nature Area “native plant dig
&
give
away”. We will thin our plantings and distribute the plants to
volunteers
and supplement our seeded area as well.
Directions:
The Forum Nature Area is one of
the entrances to the MKT trail and is located at 2701 Forum Boulevard,
just
south of Chapel Hill. Meet in the lower parking area.
June 11- Wild One’s yard tour- tours of members’ yards.
July 9- Wild One’s yard tours, continued. We will
meet at Lesa Beamer's home at 10 am and then head to the exciting new
Bear Creek development north of town.
Directions: The Beamer home is
south of Columbia near Rock Bridge State Park. From Rock Bridge
Elementary and Providence Rd., take a left and go about 3 miles to the
1st stop sign (at the Pierpont General Store). Then turn right on
Route N and go exactly 1 mile to 8400 (mailbox and home on the
left). Park on the grass to the right of the driveway.
August 13 – joint meeting with St. Louis Wild Ones at Prairie Garden Trust in
New
Bloomfield.
Sept.10 – Note time: 9am. We will assist with the
"Landscape Challenge" contest
sponsored by Grow Native. Volunteers with the City of Columbia,
as well as Master Naturalists, will be joining us to convert two
homeowners' yards into showcases for landscaping with native Missouri
plants. We will meet at the house located at 3016 Meghann
Drive.
From Hy Vee: take Fairview Rd south,
turn rt onto Hal Ct,
then left onto Nancy St, which changes into Meghann after a strange
curve to the right.. The other house is located
at 1516 Windsor, and can be reached by taking College Ave just north of
Broadway, then turning right onto Windsor.
Oct. 15 (note special date) 10 am to noon - Honeysuckle
and euonymous eradication with the Green Belt
Coalition at their Spring Valley site. Bring gloves,
loppers, pruning saws, clippers. Suggest wearing long sleeves and
pants. Round-up and applicators will be provided. Water,
drinks, cookies will be available.<>
Directions: The Spring Valley
Nature Preserve is located on Spring Valley Road. Spring Valley
goes off Broadway to the south between Clinkscales and West Blvd.
(across Broadway from Pershing Rd.) Once you turn on Spring
Valley, continue down the street taking all the left turns. The
land is along the left side of the street near the end.
Nov. 12 - Planning meeting for 2005. We will meet at
10 am at the Conservation Dept. building at College &
Stadium. Bring your comments, ideas, and suggestions for 2006
activities.
Dec. - No meeting - holiday break
